We know the benefits of having a labor doula but what about the women and families who are expecting the birth of their baby in a totally different way?

No one has “miscarriage” or “stillbirth” on their birth plan. When the plan changes, who can you go to? Who is there to call to hold space for women while they process what has happened? Who can be trusted to know when you need time to be alone and when you need to be held?

A bereavement doula is a professionally trained doula that provides compassion while giving necessary and valuable information on what to expect during the process. She is invited into the grieving family’s space and finds a way to make their experience as comfortable and peaceful as possible.

Every pregnancy loss is unique, but the support of your bereavement doula, your birth sister is always guaranteed. She is on call for you 24/7 and will provide evidenced-based information on the choices you are given from medical professionals. She will help you and your family process the fears that may come and spends time with you before, during, and after your birth. She is an advocate for you. To help you with pain management and to assist in communication with your care providers and family. She will stick by your side every step of the way.

A bereavement doula summed up is like a compass when it seems like you’re completely lost and a light when the way is completely dark. You are not alone in this trial, reach out to be lifted up.

Be faithful to thy neighbor in his poverty, that thou mayest rejoice in his prosperity: abide steadfast unto him in the time of his trouble, that thou mayest be heir with him in his heritage: for a mean estate is not always to be contemned: nor the rich that is foolish to be had in admiration. Ecclesiasticus 22:23
