So, of course you've heard of Gatorade...well, there's one for labor! And it's much healthier with real benefits for the marathon of delivering a baby.
It's also very easy to make. All you need:
organic raspberry leaf tea (bags or loose leaf tea)
raw honey
powdered calcium magnesium
sea salt
lemon
mason jars for storing
The benefits:
Raspberry Leaf Tea-strengthens the uterus & helps facilitate effective contractions
Raw Honey-natural boost of energy
Magnesium, Calcium, & Sea Salt-replace electrolytes lost during labor and prevents muscle fatigue
(Side note: I am NOT a medical professional and this is not medical advice. Always consult your provider!)
To prepare:
Make tea double strength (i.e. directions on box say to steep 1 tea bag in 8oz of boiled water. I used 2 tea bags for every cup of water and steeped for 30 minutes).
Add 1/4 cup honey in the hot water to help it dissolve.
Divide equally among the mason jars.
Add 1/2 teaspoon of powdered magnesium and a pinch of sea salt to each jar.
Add fresh squeezed lemon juice to taste.
Shake & store in fridge for up to a week.
When to drink:
I usually start preparing & consuming this at 37 weeks. You can drink it before, during, and after labor. And no, you don't have to be pregnant to consume it :)
Also, I found this recipe on Pinterest. You can also use coconut water instead of the tea, or a combination of both. Search for yourself and see if anything else interests you!
